Keyonia Cobbins, Ed.S., Principal

Keyonia Cobbins, Ed.S., brings expertise in curriculum development, literacy, and administrative operations to HMC-1. Most recently, as an Assistant Principal in the Gladstone, Missouri, area, she served as a key administrator at Chapel Hill Elementary and Linden West Elementary, overseeing daily operations, supervising and evaluating faculty, and coordinating essential support services. Her commitment to educational equity was on display as she led the design and implementation of a large, 12-day summer school program serving over 400 students from Title I schools, with a focus on a literacy curriculum and instructional materials.

Ms. Cobbins’ experience at the Academy for Integrated Arts (AFIA) in Kansas City, where she spent nine years as a founding teacher and classroom leader, is particularly relevant to HMC-1’s goals. While at AFIA, she consistently achieved high proficiency rates on standardized tests, with one second-grade class famously making 2.5 years of growth. A sought-after expert, she has presented at multiple conferences on project-based learning and model classroom workshops with acclaimed authors.

“Ingels Elementary holds a special place in my heart, and I am honored to return to lead this community,” said Ms. Cobbins. “My career has been dedicated to deep literacy work and developing instructional frameworks that empower teachers and engage students. My priority is to create an urgent, achievement-focused culture where Ingels students excel in reading and writing, establishing the critical skills they need to succeed in their future schooling and careers.”
